Ways We Saved Money in March

The month of March always brings many celebrations for our family and therefore it is one that is the most difficult for us to save money. But, we are always up for a challenge and we tried our best.

Here are some of the ways we saved money last month:

1. We discontinued our fruit and veggie delivery again for this month. I am still missing those weekly deliveries but we are trying to remain gazelle intense on paying off the mortgage so this had to go.

2. During the second half of the month the weather started to warm, so we were able to turn off the heat for most of the days.

3. I not only repaired clothing that needed mending, I also mended pillows that my children thought needed to be thrown away and replaced.

4. Our van needed a new side mirror and Mr. SF was able to to purchase the part and repair it himself.

5. My parents shared food that they would not be able to consume before it went bad, which saved us a bit on our grocery bill.

6. I made sure every time I left the house I thought about my route and did all errands that needed to be done in that “direction”. Even when I didn’t feel like making that extra stop, I forced myself to complete it so I didn’t have to make an extra trip out.

7. We had been without a dryer for several months and we saved cash to purchase a replacement. We opted to purchase a returned, scratch and dent one, saving us an extra $130!

8. I learned a very good lesson while grocery shopping this month. Every week, I use the calculator on my phone to keep track of what we are spending and I am proud to say that we have been staying under budget. But, one week this month I thought I could judge what we were spending, it had been a very long day and I was too tired to keep track. I am sure you can guess what happened, yep, we went over and I was so upset with myself. So now, if I am too tired to shop properly, I need to wait until it can be done right.

9. I started seedlings. All of the seeds that I used had been purchased some time ago, most of them last year and I am hoping that these will grow and I will not have to purchase plants for our mini garden area.

10. We started mixing our chicken feed 1/2 organic and 1/2 non organic. We had been purchasing all organic feed but this has become way too expensive so we are now mixing the two saving us at least $20/month.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. If you have had some money saving wins, we always love to read them and celebrate with you.
